Rooftop De-icing System for New Roof Install
A new lead roof installed to a prestigious building in Oxford has received the added benefit of a custom-designed rooftop de-icing system thanks to the electrical engineering expertise of Diamond Controls.
Co-ordinating with the main contractor and architect, we specified a nVent Raychem self-monitoring de-icing system. The system needed to be aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the new roof as far as possible. To achieve this, we utilised lead tags to secure all cabling and associated hardware in place, achieving a subtle visual impact.
The de-icing system will ensure that no matter the weather, the rooftop drains, and downpipes will continue to function. The trace heating cabling is self-regulating and so will automatically heat the roof when required to prevent any build-up of snow or ice which could potentially cause costly damage and loss of function.
Using nVent Raychem’s bespoke design software, our electrical engineers were able to accurately calculate the required lengths and positioning of heat trace cabling to achieve an efficient and effective solution for the new lead roof.
Marcus Fry, Estimator and Technical Support at Diamond Controls said, “The summer months are the ideal time to complete exterior work, such as roofing alterations and maintenance in preparation for the winter. A Diamond Controls client has achieved just that by complementing the installation of a new lead roof with a tailored rooftop de-icing system, designed and installed by our electrical engineers. This will ensure any snow and ice will melt the rooftop drains, and downpipes will remain functional, even in the harshest of weather.”
Trace Heating Systems offer effective frost protection and can also be used to protect pipes, maintain accessibility for critical access areas and are often used in industrial and manufacturing businesses as an effective method of process temperature control for all forms of liquids.
