Gas Detector maintenance checks to keep your system safe and compliant
As critical safety systems, Gas Detectors are used in many settings to monitor and control gas escape and alert users to potential leaks. Having a system in place is just one part of the solution however, as regular maintenance checks are essential to ensure these devices perform reliably and accurately.
Where are gas detectors required?

Gas detection systems are most commonly installed in boiler and plant rooms and commercial kitchens, but they are vital for many other applications too. For example, any workplaces with hazardous gasses need effective gas detection to comply with COSHH regulations; hospitals and laboratories, refrigeration plant rooms, and fuel and generator storage areas also all require safety standards to be maintained.
The types of gases monitored include CO, NG, CH4, CO2, LPG, H2 and O2. Monitoring refrigerant gas escape is also an important consideration so that a premises can achieve BS EN378:2016, BREEAM Pol 01 and F-Gas.
Diamond Controls has an experienced team of installation and service engineers that offer fully documented service reporting, operations manuals and commissioning records.
Why do gas leak detection systems need servicing?
Like any equipment, regular maintenance is required to ensure all components are working as they should. The frequency of servicing will be determined by the manufacturer’s guidance but will typically be every 6 or 12 months, or more often in high risk areas.
Not servicing your equipment could cause:
- Faulty detectors not being identified and dangerous leaks going unnoticed.
- Breaches in health and safety standards.
- Insurance claims to become invalid.
- Poor system reliability with false alarms or missed alerts.
What does a gas detection service include?
Our service engineers undertake a thorough review of your gas detection system, performing tasks such as:
- Full visual survey and inspection
- Report on the general condition of the system
- Fault alarms testing using approved test simulation gases
- Accuracy of leaks indicated reviewed against drawings and confirmed proven
- Full calibration of each sensor to manufacturers specification
- Emergency Stops and solenoid valve functionality
- A comprehensive report of our teams’ findings; identifying faults or hazardous damage and recommended remedial works issued following the service visit.
